Cost of Health Insurance in the United States

Health insurance is one of the most important necessities in society today. It is as important as having a good paying job or even just a temporary job today. But a rising problem right now is the increasing cost of acquiring a medical plan for each individual.

In the US today, the cost of health insurance has risen as much as the wages of the US community. A problem occurs when you get to have low-cost health insurance, yet it does not provide sufficient benefits and has co-payments and out-of-pocket minimums that are too high.

Although the rate of increase for health insurance premiums in 2007 was actually much slower than in 1990, workers wages have increased at an even slower rate. An average worker usually pays three thousand dollars in premiums for family coverage for a year. The trend when it comes to the health insurance cost in the US today is going upward. It has become more expensive so that not all workers can afford to even get coverage. Though companies are trying to make their premiums affordable enough, the significant increase makes it difficult for one to fully acquire a health insurance package with all the benefits needed.

In 2007, the average deductible for a family plan ranged from $759 for HMOs to $3,596 for indemnity plans. It is very unfortunate for a worker who has low compensation since health care options has become a difficult necessity to get and for the fact that the small companies they work for are not able to provide them one.

High health insurance cost with higher deductibles makes it impossible for some Americans to get coverage at this time. Some companies try to offer high-deductible health plans with a savings option, but this is still not enough to be helpful to all. Some companies also choose a low cost insurance policy for their employees, depriving the community of getting all the necessary benefits to secure their health and well being.

It is difficult to acquire the best health insurance plan today. But no one could be directly blamed for this. Since getting the best health plan is a bit difficult for some today, they can try to protect themselves on their own for the mean time. Living healthy and staying healthy is the best way to survive in this difficult time.
